Booth Number: 65
I like to tell stories through my work. Each piece is like a scene from a story, with its own plot, its own environment and its own cast of characters. I like to think about the world each character lives in, and what they dream about.
Usually I put together several thumbnails, to experiment with colors and perspectives, before starting on the final image. When painting the final image, the only real rule I have is to lay down the light colors first, then add the darker colors. I tend to build layer upon layer of color, adding texture and mixed media as I go. Sometimes I will add highlights in pastel, or I might outline the image in india ink. Depending on the illustration, I might scan it into my computer and add elements of collage, such as photos or handwritten quotes.
