I like to incorporate natural features from the tree in my work. What some woodworkers consider a flaw in the wood, I use to my advantage. Using a natural live edge as an opening, exposing a void in the shape, or the movement and warping that occurs in the drying process all add character to each piece. Using these features lets the work speak for itself as an individual, talking back to me and telling me where to take it. I turn natural edge vessels, spherical forms, and bowls on the wood lathe.
